Have you eaten at Popeyes yet? Many of us Brits have seen the American fast-food outlet on TV or in films but haven’t had the chance to try it. So here’s some good news: the chain is expanding, fast.
While Popeyes already has some stores in the UK, it is now adding a further 20 stores, some including drive-thru – meaning you can get your dose of Louisiana-style fried chicken on the go.
The restaurant enjoyed a successful start after launching in Stratford, east London, in 2021, later opening ten further stores. When it launched in Oxford, it saw eager customers queue up as early as 5am for their fill of chicken.
The franchise is currently working on opening their Liverpool, Brighton and Leicester branches before the end of the year. The first drive-thru is likely to be in Rotherham at Parkgate Shopping Park.
Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes UK, said: ‘It’s fantastic to see how well we are being received right across the UK. Consumer demand has been high for a drive-thru ever since we landed in the UK, so it feels like a real milestone for us.
’We’ve carefully planned our site acquisition strategy in line with where we’re seeing most demand from our customers, and it’s great to see it coming to life.’
In early 2023, Cambridge, Croydon and Reading will be the first to get their Popeyes. Other areas likely to include Cardiff and Glasgow. Delivery kitchens in Brent Cross and Dulwich will also open, joining existing ones in Maida Vale, Bermondsey, Whitechapel and Battersea.
