Most of us have dreamed that one day we’d be able to live in our very own rockstar-esque country mansion. Sadly though, you can’t always get what you want. For most of us, the multi-million-pound price tags are quite a hefty obstacle.
If you do have a spare £7.95 million lying around though, a house that is firmly engrained in British music history is now on the market. Foscombe House near Ashleworth, Gloucestershire used to be home to the Rolling Stones’ late drummer Charlie Watts, meaning that not only could you get your own country mansion. You could get one that’s been lived in by one of the great rockstars.
Watts lived in the palatial Victorian property from 1976 to 1983, when the Stones were at the height of their fame. The Grade II-listed house has five principal bedrooms, each with their own ensuite, three smaller bedrooms, four reception rooms, a study and an ornate orangery. Right at the top of its Gothic tower is a glamorous smoking room.
And we’re not finished. The 52-acre property also comes with a two-to-three bedroom coach house that was once the rock band’s recording studio, as well as acres of private flower meadows, lawns and parkland and a converted stable block that now houses a fitted kitchen, a large games room, ladies and gent’s cloakrooms, a pool, a sauna and a steam cabin. Phew!
Ed Sugden, director of Savills Country Department said: ‘The house is the epitome of glorious Victorian Gothic architecture with sun filled rooms enhanced by the most beautiful features.
‘The height and proportions of the rooms creates the most wonderful flow of living space and for such a substantial property, there is a feeling of comfortable living and a warm environment further enhanced by the far reaching outlook from all the principal rooms.’
Even if you can’t afford Foscombe House (join the club) you can still be nosy and get some satisfaction by taking a look at these pictures of the place.
The place is up for sale by Savills and you can find out more on the official listing here.
Gimme shelter: Time Out on the reality of renting
For the non-rockstars among us, buying or renting a home can be the stuff of nightmares. Here at Time Out we’re well aware of the horrors of the property market right now and as a result we have explored why finding a house share is so difficult, wondered how it could be fixed, spoken to the Brits moving abroad thanks to the cost of living, delved inside the murky world of property guardianships and learned about alternative ways of saving from these serial petsitters. Good luck out there.
Did you see that England is officially the worst place in the world for finding a home?
