You might not see ‘em every day, but Britain is littered with old military structures. This country has countless forts, castles, bunkers and defence towers that span thousands of years, ranging from stuff like this reconstructed Roman fort in Kent to Churchill’s old war office in Whitehall, which has now been turned into a swanky food hall.

And now here’s another British military relic – and this one, excitingly, is up for sale. Located off the Kent coast between the mouths of the River Thames and River Medway, it’s a gun tower that dates all the way back to the 1800s and was once used to protect important dockyards.

The tower in question is called the Grain Tower and it’s situated just off the Isle of Grain. Over the centuries the tower has gone through several wars (including both world wars) and been gradually altered to support newer kinds of military tech. It’s now officially a Grade II-listed structure.

And now it could all be yours! The Grain Tower is on the market for just £150,000 and is being sold by property agency Savills. The agent is promoting the tower as a unique opportunity ‘with potential for alternative uses or development’. The property also consists of two blocks surrounding the main tower, as well as several dilapidated stairways.

Admittedly, the Grain Tower likely needs quite a lot of work done to it in order for the tower to be used for anything at all. The abandoned building is very run down. Plus, it’s currently only accessed by a tidal causeway. Here are some pics of the place.

Whether it’ll be turned into a museum, gallery or a hipster seaside cafe in the future, an address of No. 1 the Thames definitely sounds like a winner, doesn’t it?

You can find out more about the property on the Savills listing page here.

ICYMI: this twelfth-century nunnery has hit the market for £2.75 million.
