Ah, Wetherspoons. Teeming with students, retired folks, pre-club revellers and just normal people out for an affordable pint, ’Spoons is beloved by all. Sure, the guy that runs it all is a little, erm, controversial but it’s tough to argue with such cheap drinks. And when a Wetherspoons closes down, it feels like a huge community loss.

In 2023, the company said farewell to 41 of its pubs (find out all about those here), and now there’s more bad news. It’s confirmed that JD Wetherspoon is looking to shut over a dozen more by the end of 2024 – whether because they’re up for sale or already ‘under offer’. The chain has so far closed or sold 12 pubs across the UK this year.

All the Wetherspoons pubs that are currently for sale

  • The Pontlottyn, Abertillery
  • The Ivor Davies, Cardiff
  • Spa Lane Vaults, Chesterfield
  • The Sir Daniel Arms, Swindon
  • The Plough and Harrow, London
  • Sennockian, Sevenoaks
  • Hain Line, St Ives
  • Lord Claud Hamilton, Felixstowe (underdeveloped site)
  • Barid’s Department Store, Hamilton (underdeveloped site)
  • Foot of the Walk, Leith
  • Thomas Drummond, Fleetwood
  • The Quay, Poole

On top of those, one Wetherspoons is apparently ‘under offer’.

  • Cross Keys, Peebles

And these Wetherspoons pubs have already closed in 2024

  • The White Hart, Todmorden
  • The Market Cross, Holywell
  • The Regent, Kirkby in Ashfield
  • The Sir Norman Rae, Shipley
  • The White Hart, Todmorden
  • Lord Arthur Lee, Fareham
  • Resolution, Middlesbrough
  • The Asparagus, Battersea, London
  • Percy Shaw, Halifax
  • Alfred Herring, Palmers Green, London
  • World’s Inn, Romford
  • London & Rye, Catford

As it stands, Wetherspoons owns just under 800 pubs across the UK and Ireland. You can find your local on the official website here.
