The UK is a land of many magnificent castles and palaces. There’s estimated to be over 4,000 (yep, four thousand) castles dotted across the country, with each one holding its own piece of the country’s heritage.

And now one of those mighty castles is getting a massive glow-up. The 900-year-old Norwich Castle, which is regarded as one of Europe’s most important early medieval castles, is in the middle of a £15 million revival project. The project’s big focus will see its iconic Norman Keep restored to how it looked in the 12th century and opened up to the public.

The transformation project is called Royal Palace Reborn and it certainly doesn’t stop at the keep. The Norfolk fortress will also see many of its floors replaced and rooms redecorated, as well as be fitted with new lifts, heating and bathroom facilities.

All this is set to open to the public in summer 2024. Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Norwich Castle revamp is currently one of the largest heritage projects of its kind in the UK, according to Norfolk Museums.

You can find out more about the restoration project on the Norwich Castle website on the official website here.
