The search for the new Harry Potter is underway – and it could be someone close to you! Only probably younger.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted a casting call announcement from HBO looking for child actors aged 9-11 to audition for the roles of Harry, Hermione Grainger and Ron Weasley in its new Harry Potter streaming show.
According to Variety, the submission deadline for wannabe wizards is October 31 and the show will be filming in 2025-26.
So, what to submit? The showrunners are looking for two short video pieces.
‘Please prepare a short poem or story of your choosing,’ runs the casting call info. ‘It can be from your favourite book, a poem that you love, a monologue from a play or something you’ve created yourself. Please, nothing from Harry Potter. Please use your own accent. 30 seconds maximum!’
The second self-tape is ‘a short video telling us a bit about yourself, including your date of birth, height and where you live. In addition, please describe any family member, friend or pet that you are particularly close to. Please use your own accent. One minute maximum.’
‘We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting,’ reads the ad. ‘For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated.’
The new serialisation of the J Rowling novels is scheduled to run for seven seasons, with one per book and the first likely to run in late 2026.
Succession producer Francesca Gardiner is the showrunner.
