Heard rumours of mayhem at screenings of A Minecraft Movie? Fear not, because that raw exuberance is being contained within some secure – and potentially unique – environments this weekend.

Minecraft fans will be able to level up their cinema experience at Cineworld cinemas on Sunday, via special
4DX ‘Chicken Jockey’ screenings.

A Minecraft Movie, the latest video-game adaptation to hit cinema screens, is breaking records at the global box office, but die-hard fans of the block-building game are reportedly causing chaos at screenings.

‘Chicken Jockey’, a phrase likely to baffle anyone born before 2000, has become the latest contested topic of cinema etiquette. It’s the moment in the movie that sees a baby zombie riding a chicken and it’s had audiences shrieking with joy and lobbing their popcorn around.

Cineworld wants fans to embrace the chaos by dressing up and cheering along to a movie experience its calling ‘an immersive, ground-shaking, chicken-bouncing, multi-sensory rollercoaster ride’. Minecrafters will be able to feel every buck, sway and water blast in unison in the moving 4DX seats.

These are the participating cinemas on Sunday, April 14:

  • Aberdeen Union Square, Glasgow Renfrew Street, Greenwich O2, Hull, Newport Spytty Park, Wembley – 3.20pm
  • Cardiff, Newcastle, Milton Keynes, Wandsworth, Wolverhampton – 3.30pm
  • Leicester Square – 4.20pm
  • Feltham – 4.50pm
  • Ashford, Ashton, Barnsley, Birmingham Broad Street, Bracknell, Edinburgh, Ipswich, Plymouth, Rushden Lakes, Sheffield, Stevenage, Swindon Shaw Ridge, Telford   – 5.00pm
  • Basildon, Belfast, Broughton, Cheltenham, Crawley, Dublin, Enfield – 5.10pm
  • Didsbury – 6.10pm

Expect the whooping to register on the Richter scale for a movie more jam-packed with Easter eggs than a supermarket in March.

Details of your local screening can be found on the Cineworld website.

Just remember to keep it clean and that wanton popcorn tossing remains a no-no.

The best movies of 2025 so far.

An immersive Minecraft experience is coming to London.
