Britain gets a lot of flak for its food. Somehow this nation’s cuisine has built a reputation for being bland, soggy and ugly, but at Time Out we know that is simply not true. It’s not just us. Seventy-five UK restaurants were just declared some of the best in the world by coveted gastronomic guide La Liste – and one was crowned the finest on the planet.
RECOMMENDED: The best restaurants in the UK
Here’s how La Liste’s ranking works. Every review a restaurant has received from more than 1,000 trusted guidebooks and publications is put in one giant database and converted into a score out of 100. La Liste then combines those reviews with the opinions of several thousand chefs and online customer views to come up with a final score.
After all that number crunching, Lake District restaurant L’Enclume earned a top score of 99.5 out of 100, sharing first place with nine other restaurants.
For people familiar with the UK’s dining scene, it’s probably not that surprising. Simon Rogan’s restaurant is one of just eight here with three Michelin stars, took top spot on La Liste’s ranking last year and makes regular appearances on countless other best restaurant lists.
More UK establishments to make the list of 1,000 restaurants included Core by Clare Smyth and The Ritz Restaurant in London, Ynyshir in north Wales and Moor Hall in Lancashire. You can find all 28 London restaurants in La Liste 2024 here.
