Sandwiches offer endless possibilities. There’s the cheese and ham bloomer you get in your lunchtime meal deal versus the jambon-beurre you can indulge in on the streets of Paris, the footlong meatball sub versus the Vietnamese banh mi.

With the million and one ways you can stuff food between two slices of bread, there are going to be sandwiches that are superior to all the rest. Time Out editors across the globe nominated the greatest baguettes, paninis, toasties and baps they’ve ever consumed for our list of the best sandwiches in the world. And you can get one of them right here in the UK.

Time Out’s second best sandwich in the whole world can be found on the borders of Greater London at the Epping Forest Oyster Shack. Vegans, look away – the Oyster Shack’s winning for £6.50 sando is a tiger bread roll doused in melted butter and stuffed with bacon, scallops and black pudding.

Leonie Cooper, Time Out London’s food editor hailed the sando as ‘simple, but devastatingly effective.’ She added: ‘This meat-and-seafood combo is straightforward in execution, but the tender scallops, sizzling bacon and a discus of black pudding make for the most indulgently satisfying sandwich in the city.’
