The UK’s sustainable restaurant scene is thriving, with Michelin inspectors awarding ‘green’ stars to six British restos this year alone. To recognise the importance of eco-friendly dining, this year’s edition of the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards has a brand-new category to specifically recognise sustainable restaurants.
Putting the power in the hands of trusty travellers to find eateries across Europe committed to protecting the environment, TripAdvisor’s team scoured reviews to find the most mentions of terms like ‘sustainability’ and ‘waste reduction’ for a new list of the continent’s best sustainable restaurants. And one UK restaurant has bagged second place for its efforts to go green.
Sourcing fresh ingredients from its surrounding Cornwall and neighbouring Devon, the harbour-front Blue Peter Inn in Polperro has been named the second most sustainable restaurant in all of Europe by TripAdvisor. Serving locally-caught fish and pouring Cornish ales, Blue Peter Inn is as planet-friendly as it is picturesque.
Beating it to first place on the list was Restaurant Château Neercanne, a Michelin-star eatery in Maastricht which boasts an exclusive menu of home grown and locally produced plates, while Slovenia’s Bled Castle Restaurant nabbed third place.
If silver service and white tablecloths are more your kind of thing, we’ve also covered the winners of the 2024 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards fine dining category, and one UK restaurant was named among the fanciest.
