New Century Hall, an iconic concert hall in Manchester, has reopened after a decade of lying vacant. Built in the 1960s, the Grade II-listed venue has played host to performances from the likes of Tina Turner, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and the Bee Gees.

Over the past decade, New Century Hall has only hosted a handful of gigs – with just three shows taking place between 2002 and 2013. But now the venue has now been relaunched as part of Manchester’s Noma district development.

It has been extended to three floors, featuring a basement that will host college students studying music, a ground floor bar and kitchen, and the main 1,000-capacity performance space.

The venue officially reopened on Tuesday with a performance by punk poet John Cooper Clarke. Upcoming bookings include the likes of Black Midi, Oliver Sim, the Charlatans and Kamaal Williams, with tickets and the full programme available to browse on Dice

ICYMI: these are the worst rail operators in the UK for cancellations.

Plus: Wales is poised to ban single-use plastic bags.
