It’s no secret that the UK high street is changing. The cost-of-living crisis, pandemic and changes in shopping habits have all made it harder for businesses that rely on physical foot traffic to keep going, and the likes of Boots and Costa Coffee have all announced closures. Then there was that whole hoo-ha with Wilko closing and reopening – it’s certainly a confusing time.
The latest high-street giant that has announced it’ll be closing some the doors of some outlets is Shoezone. The shoe retailer, which currently has 320 locations across the UK and employs roughly 2,500 people, closed 63 stores in the year to October 2022, and 13 in 2023. Here’s everything we know about Shoezone closures in 2024.
Which Shoezone stores are closing in 2024?
The Shoezone store on Watford High Street shut its doors on January 5. Here’s the list of all other branches which will cease trading this year.
But it’s not all bad news for Shoezone. The Weymouth and Ipswich locations are simply moving elsewhere – and the company is apparently still opening stores with a newer, bigger format, designed to stock a wider range of sizes and styles for customers. Plus, eight new Shoezone stores opened in 2023, following the 13 which opened in 2022.
