Popeyes, the chicken shop that originated in New Orleans, has come from across the Atlantic and is having its moment in Britain. It opened its first UK venue in Stratford in 2021 and thanks to its success, new branches have been cropping up left, right and centre ever since. There are now 17 outlets across the country and the franchise is not slowing down any time soon, with more than 20 others on the way.
Now Popeyes has revealed where a bunch of these sites will be. Cities including Cambridge, Cardiff, Reading and Plymouth will soon be able to indulge in that sweet, sweet Louisiana fried chicken. Its first drive-thru site will also open at Parkgate Shopping Park in Rotherham on a former KFC site and a dark kitchen is being opened in Norbury, London, to keep up with demand.
Cambridge’s branch will be the first to open on Thursday (February 16), followed shortly afterwards by Reading on February 23. The rest of the launch dates are yet to be confirmed.
Tim Crowley, the chain’s chief executive, said: ‘It’s still brilliant to see how enthusiastically the UK has welcomed us, and we’re particularly proud to be opening our first drive-thru locations this year. Now that we’ve established a growing presence here, we’re excited to start turning our attention towards building an industry-leading employee value proposition for our UK teams and identifying where we can make a difference in the communities we’re part of.’
Here are the seven new Popeyes locations:
- Cambridge
- Reading
- Cardiff
- Plymouth
- Richmond
- Rotherham (drive-thru)
- Barrhead
