Michelin star – two words that ooze prestige and exclusivity. Whether you take them seriously or not, you can’t deny that these awards have major cultural cachet.
Last night the Michelin Guide revealed the current best and most innovative restaurants across the UK. Chefs are recognised in the list for their mastery of flavour and cooking techniques, and celebrated for the consistency and personality of their dishes.
RECOMMENDED: Here are all the new Michelin-star restaurants in London for 2023
Among the 21 restaurants enjoying the culinary honour for the first time is Grace and Savour, a venue tucked within the romantic walled garden of Hampton Manor in the West Midlands, and farm-to-table restaurant Heron, which overlooks the Water of Leith in Edinburgh.
No places outside of London were newly awarded two stars and the illustrious list of three-star venues remained unchanged.
Four restaurants were also awarded a Michelin Green Star, which recognises restaurants at the ‘forefront of a more sustainable approach to gastronomy’. These included Osip in rural Somerset, Crocadon down in St Mellion, Cornwall, and Culture in Falmouth.
How many restaurants in the UK have a Michelin star?
There are a total 164 Michelin star restaurants in the UK. London accounts for 74 of these.
Which UK restaurant has the most Michelin stars?
Only eight restaurants possess the maximum of three stars. Five are London-based, while two of the remaining three both sit in the village of Bray in Berkshire.
