The Lake District is famous for its spectacular views. But how can you fully appreciate the sights if you’re driving a car, eyes on the road? Of course, if you have a few weeks to spare you could always soak up the scenery on foot. Let’s be honest, though, it’s hard to find that much time.

Let us present to you the 599 bus. This open-top bus starts at Bowness-on-Windermere and travels through Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere, allowing passengers to enjoy the stunning countryside, breathe in the fresh air and blow away the cobwebs without having to move a muscle.

And the best part? The 599 is ideal if you’re tight on both time and budget. It will cost you just £2 for a single ticket, thanks to the government’s bus fare cap. Westminster recently extended the cap until the end of October, when it will increase to £2.50. It aims to help ease cost-of-living pressures and encourage more people to use public transport.

The 599 runs every 20 minutes throughout the day and stops by Windermere rail station, which makes for a very convenient way to start your sightseeing. What’s more, you can hop on and off as you please if one particular area really catches your eye. So, what are you waiting for? Time to start planning that long overdue trip to the Lakey D.
