Head just an hour or so out of London, to the village of Lavenham in Suffolk, and you’ll find this rather recognisable building. The De Vere House was the charmingly wonky cottage in Godric’s Hollow where Harry Potter was born in the penultimate film of the wizarding franchise (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1). It’s a very, very magical property indeed. And you know what? Now fans can actually stay in it overnight.
Built in the 1300s as a hunting lodge for the wealthy De Vere family, the house has an incredible history (even beyond its role in the Hazza P universe). Apparently, it once played host to King Henry VIII. These days, it’s a bed and breakfast available to book on Airbnb where guests can expect a warm welcome, plus crumpets, marshmallows and chestnuts to toast on the open fire.
There are two rooms that guests can choose from, both featuring beamed ceilings, four-poster beds and ensuites. Visitors should also look out for medieval wall paintings and an ornate front door with hand-carved huntsmen on either side (not to mention the ghosts that apparently lurk the halls from time to time).
You can find out more and book Room 1 or Room 2 here.
