Mince pies, stuffing, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce — a Christmas dinner is truly top tier. It’s one thing enjoying it in your cosy local pub, but what if we told you that you could dig into all of that while chugging through the stunning British countryside?
South Devon Railway is offering the chance to indulge in a delicious festive feast onboard one of its traditional steam trains. Diners will board the train at Buckfastleigh and ride to and from Staverton for a total of two hours while tucking into their Christmas meal in the first-class Christmas Dining Car.
The menu, made up of fresh local ingredients, includes a brie and cranberry tartlet, a traditional turkey roast (pumpkin nutroast and figs in blanket for veggies) and a classic Christmas pudding or clementine panacotta for afters. The final course will be a mince pie and coffee. Don’t worry all you vegan or gluten-free folks, there will be options for you, too.
If you fancy all of that, tickets for the experience are £79 per person. That price includes your train ticket, a cranberry mimosa on arrival, all four courses and a Christmas cracker.
You can pick between Christmas lunch, which departs at 1pm, or dinner, which leaves the station at 7pm. The experience is running on November 26, December 3, December 10 and December 17 – make sure you book in advance!
