The Royal Scotsman is basically an insanely posh country mansion on wheels. For most of us, it’s unlikely that we’ve even stayed in a hotel that meets its level of luxury. We’re talking a Dior spa carriage, on-board ceilidhs and a five-star food menu that puts the LNER first-class offering to shame.

And now the Royal Scotsman is about to get even more opulent with two brand new ‘grand suites’. Belmond, the hotel company behind the sleeper train, will officially unveil the new suites next month.

Right now, the train has three categories: double, single and twin. The newest grand suites will be a notch above the rest, with a private living area, double bed and en suite decorated with local wood and stone and bespoke tartan.

While chugging from Edinburgh through the Scottish Highlands, guests in the grand suites will get to indulge in private transfers to and from the train, a personal butler service and in-room dining on request. You'll also get one complimentary spa treatment. Here are a few pics of what the new suites will look like.

The suites are available to book from May from the modest price of (brace yourselves) £12,000 per person. If that just so happens to be within your budget, you can book one of the Belmond Royal Scotsman journeys here
