It’s been an exciting couple of months for Liverpudlian train infrastructure afficionados. Back in April it was revealed that Liverpool Central station is getting a sizeable revamp, and now we’ve had new images revealed of the city’s glitzy, highly anticipated new Liverpool Baltic station.

Liverpool’s new Baltic station will apparently cost a whopping £100 million and intends to serve the city’s fast-growing Baltic Triangle neighbourhood. The station will be equipped with step-free access from street to train, cycle parking, passenger loos and waiting facilities. It’ll sit on the site of the old St James station, which closed back in 1917, and be on the local Merseyrail network.

Baltic is one of four new stations planned by Liverpool’s recently re-elected mayor Steve Rotheram. There are also plans for new hubs at Daresbury in Halton, Woodchurch on the Wirral and Carr Mill in St Helens – all of which will have begun development before the end of the decade.

Here are the CGI images that’ve been released of the new Liverpool Baltic station.

The next part of the process will see a virtual reality consultation open to members of the public from June 3 to July 26. Work is planned to start on Liverpool Baltic station in 2025, and the station is expected to be operational by the end of 2027.
