We live in an era of convenience. Want to watch a TV show? You have access to 10,000 series you can binge-watch whenever you fancy. Hungry at 4am? Order a Maccies on Deliveroo. Or, very soon, order fresh produce from the Co-op and cook yourself a stir-fry at any hour of the day.
Co-op has announced that it will soon begin 24-hour delivery services in London, Leeds, and Manchester, so that you’re never stuck without an onion when you need it most. You’ll be able to order via Deliveroo, Uber Eats, and Just Eat, which are all already partnered with the supermarket, to get exactly what you need exactly when you need it.
If these initial test runs go well, they’ll likely expand to other cities which have an adequate amount of late-night drivers and enough staff on the night shift to pack the orders. They will also focus on places with lots of young people and shift workers, as they are predicted to be the primary consumers of the service.
But it isn’t just nocturnal students and bouncers who need a midnight snack. One study found that 40 percent of all respondents said that they would at some point order grocery drop in the wee small hours, which, if true, would suggest that this scheme is about to be a huge success.
A representative for the chain said that ‘meeting the needs of our member-owners and customers is at the heart of what we do at Co-op… we understand how changing lifestyles and working patterns are increasing the need for more flexibility when it comes to getting groceries delivered. We’re always looking at ways to evolve.’
