Calling all easyJet mega-fans (we know you’re out there). The affordable carrier has just announced its longest-ever route from England, which will take nearly six hours and cover a whopping 2,332 nautical miles. Exciting, we know.
Even more thrilling is that the route isn’t just long: it also goes somewhere really interesting. EasyJet’s new service goes from London Gatwick to the island of Sal in Cape Verde. Sal is best-known for its white sandy beaches and 350 days of sunshine a year – which sure sounds tempting right now, in the midst of a chilly, rainy, altogether quite bleak British November.
The previous longest easyJet passenger route from England was between Manchester and Hurghada in Egypt (2,240 nautical miles), while the operator’s longest route remains between Belfast and Hurghada (2,400 nautical miles). Sal will be easyJet’s first destination in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Commenting on the new route, easyJet’s UK country manager Ali Gayward said: ‘We’re proud to be releasing such an incredible range of new routes and package holidays, providing more choice for customers to visit more of the places they love across Europe and to experience some incredible new destinations.
‘This includes a milestone route for easyJet to beautiful Cape Verde, our first ever sub-Saharan service.’
EasyJet will run three return services a week between Gatwick and Sal, starting from March 31 2025. The easyJet website currently prices one-way trips starting from around £134.
