Missing the warm weather and sunny skies already? We’ve got bad news: there’s lots, lots more rain on the way. A cyclone could even hit the UK, bringing with it thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail. Oh, joy.
Weather forecasters are warning that while the beginning of the week will be pretty dry, towards the weekend the jet stream is set to turn south, pushing low pressures towards our shores and opening up the heavens.
The Met Office said two low-pressure centres are set to move towards the UK, bringing with it unsettled weather. ‘We have got one that’s going to try to push in from the north west, and there’s also one from around the Bay of Biscay that’s going to try and push in from the south,’ Jonathan Vautrey, a meteorologist for the Met Office, told The Independent.
Coastal areas are to bear the brunt of the heavy rainfall, while also experiencing warm temperatures during precipitation, said the experts. Vautrey added that the western half of the country is more likely to be affected, while the rest of the UK might see wet weather in the following days.
He continued: ‘Friday is when we might see the first signs of the low-pressure centres, particularly the north-western one spreading across western Scotland and into Northern Ireland.’
