Don’t know if you noticed, but it’s really, really hot out there. Runways have melted, trains have been cancelled, and London was literally on fire. It’s not normal, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to cool down any time soon.
The Met Office has just released its long-range weather forecast for August, so now we can take a look at whether there are any other scorchers on the cards in August. While next week is going to be quite a bit cooler – thank the Lord! – the meteorologists say another major heatwave after that can’t be ruled out.
Temperatures will still be slightly warmer than average until the end of July, but we’re talking the mid-20Cs rather than, y’know, 40C. A whole load of thunderstorms are forecast across the country over the next week or so, especially in the south-east of England. Up north, it’ll be very rainy, too, offering some pretty nice (and well-deserved) relief from the heat.
But perhaps not for much longer. An expert told Sky News that as we move into next month, another serious heatwave could flare up. It’s still a bit too early to be sure, but we’ll no doubt find out more over the coming week or so. And regardless, it looks like it’s going to be pretty damn hot, so all the usual rules apply: wear sunscreen, keep hydrated and stay in the shade. Oh, and watch out for any further weather warnings.
