It’s the New Year, and that means New Year’s resolutions. Loads of big brands have laid out their ambitions for major growth over the next 12 months. One of them is Co-op. As part of its grand plan to open 120 new branches over the next four years, it has announced that it’ll be launching 75 brand new stores across the UK in 2025.
So far, only two locations for the new shops have been confirmed. They’ll be at The Anchorage in Salford Quays and East Benton in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Up to 25 Co-op operated stores will open in the first half of the year, with 50 more set to open as franchises (which allows the brand to operate in places it may not normally be able to access).
That’s not all that’s happening for the company in 2025. There are also up to 80 Co-op shops due to get makeovers and relaunch this year. They include outlets in Exeter, Brighton, Bristol, Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Avonmouth, Hereford and Clapham
Matt Hood, the supermarket’s managing director, said: ‘We want everyone to have easy and convenient access to a Co-op store, wherever they live, and this year we are completely focused on achieving that through an ambitious and exciting new stores strategy.
‘Our stores play an active role in local life, and are often a community hub, providing the products and services our members and customers want and need.’
At the same time, Co-op will be saying goodbye to a bunch of its branches. Nineteen stores are set to shut over the next six months, with three being turned into B&M home stores.
