We’re currently in the inter-Christmas/New Year’s limbo, and you’re probably not thinking about much more than what film you want to put on next. If you’re getting a bit sick of the rain and cold, you might find it helpful to start looking beyond the new year, all the way out to summer.
If you’re about to start planning your travels for 2025, we have some bad news. Several British Airways short-haul flights appear to have become unavailable from next year, including to popular holiday destinations like Mykonos and Santorini from London Gatwick airport.
This comes after the company was forced to cancel journeys to and from multiple London airports and Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, and New York due to an issue in the supply chain. Basically, parts which the airline needed to fix engines in its Boeing 787 planes are created by Rolls Royce, which was late to deliver due to issues with its own suppliers, meaning that BA had no choice but to ground aircraft.
BA journeys to the Greek island Kos and Croatian city Pula, both of which used to be accessible from Heathrow, are no longer listed on the company’s website, and aviation experts Head for Points believe that it’s unlikely they’ll return. Although flights to Mykonos and Santorini will still fly from Heathrow, meaning minimal disruption, and vice versa for Kos, travellers may struggle to find a similar service to Pula. Instead, they may have to transfer in Zadar, which could add hours onto your trip.
It’s unknown if the issues which caused BA’s long-haul cancellations are actually the reason for these flights becoming unavailable, and we also don’t know if more routes could stop running in the future, although HFP did caution that Glasgow to Gatwick could be the next on the cutting board. Only time will tell – you’ll just have to keep your eyes open and radars on.
