It may cost a pretty penny compared to the likes of Aldi and Lidl, but Marks and Spencers has officially been named Britain’s favourite supermarket for a third consecutive year. The people just love Percy Pigs.
In a study by Which?, over 3000 members of the public ranked nine UK supermarkets based on factors like value for money, staff helpfulness, queuing time and range of products.
The home of Percy Pigs and Colin the Caterpillar earned an overall customer score of 76 percent and was awarded top marks for the quality of its own-label and fresh produce, its customer service and the appearance of its stores. As one of Britain’s more upmarket grocery shops, it understandably only scored two stars for value for money.
Second by only a small margin was Aldi, with a total customer score of 73 percent and four stars for value for money. Sainsbury’s was hot on Aldi’s heels also with an overall score of 73 percent.
Unsurprisingly, Lidl (home to the UK's cheapest groceries) was the only other supermarket to be awarded four stars for its good value. Here’s the full ranking of Brits favourite supermarkets, according to Which?:
- M&S
- Aldi
- Waitrose
- Sainsbury's
- Tesco
- Iceland
- Lidl
- Asda
- Morrisons
Thanks to its popularity, M&S was recently crowned one of the fastest growing supermarkets in the country and is opening a whole bunch of new stores. Aldi is also making the most of its enduring success and plans to open a whopping 500 new branches across the UK.
