Hugh Grant, Bridgerton, Pride and Prejudice, the Royals — if there’s one thing Britain is known for overseas, it’s posh people. And those posh people all tend to hang out in the same posh places. You know, places with pristine cobbled streets, artisan bakeries, rowing clubs and big old Georgian mansions.

While most of us could only dream of being able to afford a house in such places, we can at least visit for a few days to get a taste of how the other half live. Where exactly should you go for that? Well, after picking out the UK’s 14 poshest suburbs, the Telegraph has selected the 15 fanciest towns that a perfect to go and ‘play at being posh for a while’.

Henley-on-Thames, just one hour from London, was named the poshest of the lot. You can read more about that here.

In second place was Bruton in Somerset, which the Telegraph describes as ‘pretty as a picture’. It gives special shoutouts to the high-end Hauser and Wirth art gallery on Durslade Farm, the quietly luxurious Michelin star joint Osip and ‘uber-swanky’ new hotel The Newt in Somerset. The north Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate took third place. The paper said the town ‘has had a reputation for being well-to-do since the 19th century’ and its centre ‘retains a refined air, with elegant buildings, a strong boutique shopping scene and classily traditional eateries.’ World-famous tearoom Betty’s was listed as a highlight here, alongside the Turkish Baths and the Royal Hall. Most places in the list are in England, but the seaside town of Penarth is in sixth place repping Wales and St Andrews, full of ‘dramatic ruins, medieval streets, wild coast and, of course, golf’ (and a royal favourite), ranked ninth for Scotland
