The legendary Black Sabbath have announced plans to play their final ever gig.

The concert will take place in July in the heavy metal pioneers’ native Birmingham at Villa Park – the stadium home to Premier League football club Aston Villa.

Black Sabbath will be playing with their original line-up of frontman Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi and bass player Geezer Butler, as well as drummer Bill Ward, who has officially rejoined the band after leaving a decade ago. The gig was announced by Sharon Osbourne and Tony Iommi on Wednesday morning (February 5) at Villa Park.

Called Back To The Beginning, the one-day festival will feature a quite ridiculous host of legendary heavy bands. The line-up includes Metallica, Pantera, Slayer and Anthrax, and there will also be appearances from Billy Corgan, Slash, Fred Durst, Tom Morello and Wolfgang Van Halen, as part of a ‘supergroup’. The event’s musical director Tom Morello said: ‘This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever’.

The show will raise money for Cure Parkinson’s, the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Acorn Children’s Hospice. In 2020, Ozzy revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Speaking about the show, Ozzy said: ‘It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning… time for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.’
