Ding dong, Avon calling! It’s probably been a while since you’ve had an Avon rep at your door with a hamper of cosmetic goodies, but it's still what many of us imagine when we think of the brand.
The beauty giant seems to be trying to move on from all that though and is turning to actual bricks and mortar stores. Over the next two months the brand will open a handful of UK shops, aiming to make them ‘mini beauty boutiques’.
We don’t know the location of the stores yet but the brand has said that it will be targeting ‘neighbourhood communities’ rather than traditional high streets. They won’t feature Avon’s full range of products – those will still only be available through Avon reps.
It’s not the first time Avon products will be available in British stores. The brand also agreed to a partnership with Superdrug back in September and launched its cosmetic range in 100 stores. It plans to expand across hundreds more from November 27.
Angela Cretu, global chief executive of Avon International, told the PA news agency: ‘We are on the cusp of new frontiers for Avon.
‘Women stayed at home in the past, but now they are going out to work and we have to follow them wherever they spend their time and make the service as convenient as possible.’
Perhaps it will also mean that ‘yer da sells Avon’ will become less of a brutal insult, too. Unlikely.
All things bricks and mortar
