As everyone knows, doing a big shop on an empty belly is a rookie error. But now loads of Brits will be able to stave off chaotic, hungry supermarket trips: beloved bakery chain Greggs has announced a string of standalone cafés set to land in Sainsbury’s stores across the country.
A new partnership between the two high-street brands will see six new Greggs appear in Sainsbury’s stores by the end of 2024. As well as the drool-worthy smells of hot baked goods, shoppers can apparently expect ‘coffee-style operations’ – which is an interesting way to say ‘coffee’ – and seats to slump in as they recover from (or prepare for) some aisle scavenging.
The flourishing partnership between Greggs and Sainsbury's is one of many that the pastry pros have nurtured over the years. Similar team-ups with Tesco and Asda resulted in seven new Greggs spots in Tesco branches opening this year alone.
More recently, Greggs opened its first outlet in the South Terminal of Gatwick Airport, a magical place where weary travellers can access pastries, sausage rolls and cheese & onion bakes for 24 hours a day. The bakery chain’s ‘master plan’ apparently involves opening a whopping 150 new stores by the end of 2023.
Sadly we aren’t privy to exactly which Saino’s stores will get the ‘always tasty’ treatment. You never know, it could be your local!
