Summer is officially here, people. The first weekend of June saw Brits head out in droves to bask in the sun, and with a seriously sizzling ‘Iberian plume’ on the way, it is only set to get warmer. In fact, the hottest day of the year could arrive this week.

A Met Office spokesperson told Sky News that record 2023 temperatures are ‘not beyond the realms of possibility’ this week. Forecasters are reporting that highs of 24C or 25C can be expected in parts of the country, with temperatures set to get even hotter from Thursday and some sheltered places in parts of Wales or south-west England potentially reaching 26C.

The highest temperature recorded in the UK so far this year was 25.1C in the Welsh town of Porthmadog on Friday. As the dry weather and clear skies continue, the UV index rating is set to be high, so be sure to dust off the factor 50 before heading outside. Pollen levels are also very likely to increase – hay fever sufferers, take note.

Plus: Scotland has introduced its first Low Emission Zone – and locals are furious.
