The Met Office has published its weather predictions for the month ahead, and the forecast is almost as dreary as the general January mood.

However, amid the drizzle and short-lived New Year’s resolutions, there is the possibility of snowfall for parts of the UK as early as Sunday.

But don’t dust off the sledge just yet. The Met Office says the snow will likely be ‘confined to northern higher ground’.

Overall, January is expected to be pretty damp. ‘Unsettled weather is most likely to characterise the beginning of this period, with blustery showers or longer spells of rain in all areas,’ a Met Office spokesperson said.

Milder weather is expected in mid-January, with overnight frost and fog remaining likely, while temperatures are predicted to rise slightly towards the end of the month.
