A walrus has washed up on a beach in Hampshire this weekend. Nicknamed ‘Thor’, the animal was spotted in Calshot, thousands of miles from his home in the Arctic.

And tempting as it may be to give Thor a visit, the British Divers Marine Life Rescue is telling people to stay away from him.

The organisation has already set up a cordon to avoid crowds getting too close to the walrus as he needs to conserve his energy for the next big swim.

The BDMLR wrote on Facebook: ‘Key advice is being issued to everyone to give the walrus a very wide berth to avoid disturbing it.

‘They travel long distances and have rest stops to recover and regain energy before moving on again.'

Thor has had quite the busy season, having travelled to the Netherlands and France in recent weeks. Let’s hope he gets to his next destination safely (it’s pretty chilly out there!)
