Train travel in the UK can be an unpleasant undertaking, complete with endless delays, skyrocketing prices, and standing room only. What if you could step on a carriage at Paddington, and actually get a seat? What if, instead of a half-hearted trolley selling overpriced crisps and watery tea, there was a smorgasbord of locally sourced delicacies, served to you as you journey through beautiful scenery?

For a price no more than the average return to just about anywhere outside London, these dreams could soon become a reality. Steam Dreams Rail Co. have just announced two new experiences for 2025 – and fine dining and plush seats are guaranteed.

Their new itineraries, The Spirit of Summer Lunchtime Tour and The Sunset Steam Express, will both take place on just two dates this summer: Thursday, July 10 and Thursday, August 21.

The iconic 70000 Britannia locomotive, previously used to haul the Royal Train, will pass through the Thames Valley towards Oxford, before chugging through the Chiltern Hills, an official Area Of Natural Beauty. On the way, passengers will be able to spot chalk hills, Iron Age hillforts, and vineyards.

Juliet Soley from Steam Dreams said: ‘We are thrilled to introduce this breathtaking new summer route through the Chiltern Hills, showcasing some of the most picturesque countryside England has to offer. Our passengers cherish the nostalgic experience of travelling by steam train. Coupled with the luxurious interiors that evoke a bygone era, the locally sourced menus with an exciting array of dishes, and the stunning scenery, it makes for a magical day or evening out that leaves a truly lasting impression.’

If you fancy hopping onboard for a summer steam adventure, here’s a breakdown of ticket options:
