As October rolls in, UK streets are finally starting to see the return of cosy oversized puffers and autumnal-hued beanies. But if we’ve learned anything about the Great British weather this past summer, it's not time to stash away your paper fans and sandals just yet.
After a chillier start to the month, summer might just be making a mini comeback this weekend. According to the Met Office, temps would go up to 24C on Saturday (Oct 7) across all regions in the UK. London and the south-east are forecasted to be the hottest areas, hitting a max temp of 26C on Sunday (Oct 8).
The overall temperature will gradually increase over the next few days, before peaking in the mid-twenties this weekend. It is unlikely that it will break the October 2021 record temp of 29.9C, but the mild swelter is expected to last till Monday as warmer air gets pushed away and temps dip next week.
On the flip side, it will be mostly overcast and wet across Scotland and Northern Ireland into the weekend. While the southern parts of England bake, persistent rain is expected in the North starting this Thursday and may lead to some transport disruptions.
The Met Office said that parts of the UK could be as hot as Ibiza this weekend, with predicted temps up to six degrees above the October average. So, lather on your sunscreen and head out to soak up whatever sun we can get this weekend.
