The past few weeks have been pretty sweaty to say the least. Dodgy tanlines have been acquired and supermarket freezers have been emptied. But finally we're getting a bit of relief from the long stint of sweltering heat as the UK is now set to have a fortnight of cooler, unsettled weather.
However, even more heatwaves are expected in early and late July, in the first half of August and then again in September, according to forecasters at The Weather Company (yep, that’s their real name). The sun is predicted to hit us with ‘above average’ temperatures again for at least a fortnight from July 9.
And experts aren’t ruling out the chances of 40C temperatures similar to those seen last year. A Met Office spokesperson told The Mirror: ‘Because of the change in climate our extreme temperatures are continuously being pushed. There is an increasing chance these extremes could get pushed further.
‘We got 40C last year and before that happened no one thought there was an outside chance. There’s also a possibility we do continue to see those trends.’
The hottest day of 2022 saw record-breaking 40.3C temperatures in Lincolnshire. The highest temperature recorded this year so far was 32.2C, in Surrey on June 10 and in Lincolnshire on June 25.
