The short-term SIM card plan starts from eight days (¥3,990) to 31 days (¥7,490), if you’re planning on traveling longer than one month, the long-term plan is a better bang for your buck. Unlimited data is included, with no voice calling or texting. The plan uses either Softbank or Docomo, major Japanese providers that cover 99% of Japan’s population.
The long-term SIM card plan offers unlimited data, free incoming voice calls and texting with a Japanese phone number, provided by Softbank. Unlike Japanese data plans, which require a domestic bank account, you can purchase the SIM card online and pay the subsequent bills at the convenience store or through your home country’s credit card.
Ninja WiFi Router is a flat-rate portable wifi router with unlimited data. It’s perfect if you’re traveling in groups, the router can connect up to five devices at the same time, and if you’re traveling for a long time, plans go up to 60 days starting at ¥680 for one day.
