Produced in collaboration with Time Out Tokyo, the fifth issue of Nikkei Asia's special magazine Unlock the Real Japan is out now.
Unlock the Real Japan features interviews with some of Japan’s top experts in their fields and focuses on a variety of seasonal themes, targeting business leaders in Asia. The magazine is enclosed inside the Nikkei Asia newsmagazine and distributed for free at embassies and luxury hotels in Japan. This issue will be available at Expo 2020 Dubai on BIE Day (March 30), as well.
The fifth issue explores what to expect at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. Look forward to a general overview of the upcoming Expo as well as interviews with people involved in putting on the event.
Four experts share insights gained from past Expos and lessons from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. Seiichi Saito, director of Panoramatiks and the creative advisor for the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, talks about how Expo 2025 can lead visitors to engage with the whole of Japan. Meanwhile, Expo 2025 event planning producer Kenji Kohashi – a former actor and film director turned event planner – shares his vision for Expo 2025.
In an interview, SkyDrive founder Tomohiro Fukuzawa talks about his startup’s flying cars and his plans to revolutionise transportation, while contemporary artist and filmmaker Naohiro Ukawa lets us know his expectations for Expo 2025 and how Osaka’s Expo ’70 influenced contemporary subculture.
There’s also a report on nine demonstration experiments on Yumeshima island, the site for Expo 2025, including cooling structures that use no electricity, unmanned waterway transportation, laser and drone signage systems and more (pictured above).
In the issue’s second special feature, you’ll find interviews all about Japan’s strategy for driving growth in several key areas. Hear from experts including Yumi Yoshikawa, the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry; Masashi Okada, CEO of Tokyu Land Corporation; and Akihiko Hoshi, Director for Tourism Policy Coordination of the Japan Tourism Agency.
There is also a profile of Kamiyama, a small town in Tokushima prefecture, which is being hailed as an example for towns seeking new urban development, regional regeneration and tourism initiatives. Learn about Kamiyama’s future solutions for issues such as depopulation and ageing demographics (pictured above).
Don’t miss the Keihanshin area guide that shows you the best places in Greater Osaka, including Kyoto, Nara and Kobe (pictured above). All the spots are easily accessible as a day trip from central Osaka.
