The 160m-long street on the west side of Akihabara UDX has its trees illuminated with white LED tape lights. Accompanying this tree light-up is a cube-shaped digital art installation by Japanese artist Yoichi Oichiai.
The glass box, dubbed ‘Reflector∞:Resonance of Electrical Echoes’, measures 2.6 metres tall and 3 metres wide. The ceiling and floor are LED screens while the remaining surfaces are covered with mirrors to create the effects of an infinity room. According to the artist, this work symbolises the merging of digital and subculture, as well as modern and traditional Japan.
The illuminations take place daily from 5pm to 11pm.
