The tallest structure in Japan at 634m, Tokyo Skytree will open its doors for the first sunrise of the year from 5.30am to 7.30am. And the best part is, the event can accommodate up to840 people for the New Year festivities. While tickets (¥7,000) can be purchased at the door, we recommend booking online in advance in case they sell out. Each ticket includes a ¥1,000 voucher to spend at the Skytree gift shop, plus a commemorative badge.
Regular operations (and ticket prices) will resume from 8am to 10pm (last entry at 9pm) on January 1, with fun traditional activities such as sumo wrestling. Skytree will also open earlier on January 2 and 3 at 9am. You can purchase discounted morning tickets in advance here (in Japanese only).
If you happen to be near Tokyo Skytree before the first sunrise (12midnight-6am), keep your eyes on the structure as it will be illuminated in the colours of the Japanese flag.
