Time Out says

Visit Gyoko-dori, the street that stretches between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace in Marunouchi, from March 19 to March 21 to see it decorated with colourful flower petals. It’ll feature Edo-period re-creations of famous kabuki-e (kabuki actors) by ukiyo-e artist Kunisada Utagawa using 50,000 carnations. The creative displays are supervised by professional flower artist Yasuhiko Fujikawa.

There will also be five additional gigantic artworks made by 200 volunteers that are approximately six metres wide and eight metres tall. The theme is Tokyo Restart, so expect to see illustrations that represent hope for a better 2022 after the past two years of the pandemic.

The flowers used at this event will all be recycled into a flower sketchbook, which will be donated to special needs schools in Tokyo to support art education for children with disabilities. This initiative has been running since 2018 and it’s managed to donate 8,000 sketchbooks to 57 locations so far.
