Shopping mall Tokorozawa Sakura Town in Saitama is celebrating Setsubun across three days from February 3 to 5. Come on Friday to catch the Meigen-no-gi ceremony, a ritual to ward off evil spirits by pulling a bowstring to make a sound instead of shooting an arrow. Saturday is the Tsuina ceremony which is a procession that gets rid of evil spirits, too. Both ceremonies start at 4pm and cost ¥2,000 to watch.
Saturday features a demon and lion dance at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, and children can participate in a candy grabbing game if you’ve spent over ¥1,000 at Tokorozawa Sakura Town on the same day. Feeling hungry? Head outside to check out the food trucks and stalls.
