The street between Ikebukuro Station and Sunshine City gets a distinctly Okinawan flavour during this festival to celebrate Japan's southernmost prefecture. Enjoy traditional Okinawan dancing and singing like eisa dancing from May 26 to 28. If you’re here from May 29 to June 2, there'll be live music performed by Okinawan musicians like Kiiyama Shoten, Diamantes and The Sakishima Meeting everyday from 5pm. The last two days feature an Okinawan play and karate demonstration.
In addition, you'll find plenty of food stalls selling treats like Okinawan soba and sata andagi doughnuts inside the Sunshine City complex, while the outdoor plaza hosts a beer garden serving Orion brews and island bites. There’s a free eat-in space open from 11am to 4pm between May 29 and June 2, but the beer terrace requires tickets (¥3,000 per person) that have to be purchased in advance via the website.
