Although oden – a winter dish of ingredients such as hard-boiled eggs, daikon, konnyaku, tofu and the likes cooked in a dashi-based broth – is found throughout Japan, Shizuoka Oden is particularly famous. In Tokyo, you’ll commonly find oden with a a light and salty broth, but Shizuoka’s version has a dark soup, which is filled with a range of skewered ingredients like beef and pork, and topped with green seaweed and bonito flakes. At this festival, you’ll be able to try a range of Shizuoka-style oden, with each restaurant having their own original recipe.
