Time Out says

Celebrate the first day of 2023 at Shibuya Scramble Square’s spectacular rooftop observation deck. Only 300 people will get the chance to see the first sunset while looking out over the city from this spot 229 metres above ground.

The event is a collaboration with Shibuya’s Konno Hachimangu Shrine, which sets up a small altar for the occasion. The shrine’s priest will even perform a special New Year’s prayer (from 7.10am), so visitors can join the celebration while performing hatsumode, the first shrine visit and prayer of the new year.

Tickets cost ¥6,500 per person and must be purchased online in advance. The price includes your choice of amazake (sweet fermented rice drink) or sake as well as an omamori lucky charm and a ¥500 coupon, which you can use at the gift shop or the on-site café on that day.

The event takes place from 5.30am to 8.30am.
