For those forging their own path on New Year’s Eve, with maybe a solid round of pub-crawling, you can still do the countdown in style at Shibuya Crossing where a raucous crowd will pour onto the streets at midnight. Shibuya has really figured it out better than New York’s Times Square – no unmoving mob for eight hours before midnight in sub-freezing temperatures, just one solid cheer and a burst of chaos. After the new crackdown on public drinking – which was enforced for this year's Halloween and affects New Year's as well – we’ll see how this year’s street party will work out. Pro tip: watch your bag/wallet when you rush the crowd.
