The Tokyo Sports Square is one of the two official Rugby World Cup Fanzones in the metropolis – and it’s open to everyone. You don’t need a match ticket to partake in all the fun at the indoor festival grounds located next to Yurakucho Station.
Here you can join rugby fans from all over the world in enjoying live screenings of all 48 Rugby World Cup matches on large LED screens. The second floor, however, is especially created for young families, where alcohol is prohibited.
That’s not all: on September 20, the comedian duo Kyaeen will take over the stage, while Shotaro Onishi, former national rugby player of Japan, will have a talk on October 20 to introduce the game in detail. On November 20, singer-songwriter Mayo Okamoto will perform her hit songs.
There are lots to learn about rugby here at the Fanzone. You can participate in some rugby lessons taught by professional players, and don’t forget to check out the on-site museum corner regaling Japan’s rugby history. If you want a taste of local culture among all these sporting experiences, check out the Japan booth to get dressed up in a kimono.
When you’re feeling peckish, rugby-themed food awaits, with lots of international options including choripan (chorizo sandwich; ¥800) from Argentina.
