Want to spend a special evening at Tokyo’s oldest museum? Head to the Tokyo National Museum for the unique Night Festival taking place every evening until Sunday September 1.
The after-dark festivities include traditional Japanese performing arts on stage, classic matsuri games like ring toss and shateki shooting, and workshops where you can learn Japanese calligraphy as well as how to craft furin (wind chimes) and daruma dolls. Feeling peckish? There will also be plenty of food and drink stalls set up around the museum grounds, where you can enjoy treats like kakigori shaved ice and cotton candy.
That’s not all. The event also includes access to the museum's ‘Comprehensive Cultural Exhibition’ and the special showcase ‘Jingo-ji: The Dawn of Shingon Buddhism’.
