This moon-viewing event, said to have originated during the Edo period, is held at the Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens from September 28 to 30. For this special occasion, this Sumida park will extend its opening hours until 9pm, which means you can see the garden light up with lanterns after sundown.
At 5.50pm each day, 35 people can participate in lighting candles for some of the lanterns painted with haiku and haiga paintings. From 6pm to 8pm, you can enjoy a soothing koto (Japanese string instrument) performance while gazing at the full moon. On September 29 (Friday) and 30 (Saturday), there’s a tea ceremony from 3pm to 8pm, which you can join for just ¥1,000 per person.
