Held around Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho, this illumination display features a variety of winter forest-themed installations, including the Kioi Forest Tree. The ten-metre-tall tree is surrounded by a forest display of smaller trees and other greenery.
The trees used for this installation haven’t actually been felled – they’re still alive with their roots attached. After the event, the trees will be replanted back in their original locations to continue growing for next year’s illuminations. The Kioi Forest Tree has a large white deer statue, while the ornaments are made from flowers and greenery grown at the biotope on the premises.
On December 20 at 6.30pm and on December 24 at 4pm, you can enjoy a free handbell music performance by students of the nearby Sophia University. And before going home, don’t forget to check out the champagne-gold illuminations along Benkei moat.
The illuminations take place daily from 4.30pm to 11pm.
